It's that time of year, when we think about where we're going and look back at where we've been. For xAd, 2016 was all about progress. From settling into our new headquarters at One World Trade Center to launching more than 40 products and features, it's been a pivotal and humbling 12 months, and we can't thank our partners—both new and ongoing—enough.
Our primary focus this year was to secure more location data than ever before, and today we reach 500 million users monthly and track more than 100 million points of interest globally. This mandate is what drove our acquisition of industry-leading weather app WeatherBug in November, which expanded our mobile panel (users who have opted-in to share their location data) to 50 million and allows us to move toward more predictive behavior analysis. Simultaneously, we armed marketers with new tools and solutions like never before, and partnered with a leader in global analytics, comScore, to offer the industry’s first third-party validated location measurement solution, powered by Blueprints.
While we celebrate these milestones internally, xAd was fortunate enough to receive industry recognition as well. We were honored to be named one of Crain New York's 50 fastest growing companies and one of Business Insider's hottest pre-IPO ad tech startups. xAd was also the only location company featured in LUMA Partners' ad tech "LUMAscape," dedicated to companies with more than $100 million in revenue.
As successful as 2016 has been, it wasn't without its challenges. Location as a category still has a long way to go before it becomes as prominent as search and social. However, this year brands and buyers started to recognize the value of location and the impact it can have on sales — creating more competitive buzz in the space. While this raised the stakes even higher, we believe location intelligence will become more of a strategic imperative and xAd will continue to lead the category in 2017.
As adoption of location increases and new technologies like Augmented Reality and Artificial Intelligence evolve, xAd is also excited to see how these innovations will merge to help shape the future. My team and I are committed to pushing the boundaries on our product performance and being on the forefront of location innovation.
On behalf of everyone at xAd, I would like to thank you again for your continued support and look forward to seeing what lies ahead for all of us in 2017.
All the best,
Founder & CEO
