With the rise of eCommerce and a spate of brick-and-mortar stores closing their doors, it seems like marketers can’t escape the phrase “retail is dead.” In June 2018, GroundTruth surveyed over 2,000 consumers about their in-store shopping wants and needs, unveiling the state of the retail industry. What we’ve found is that they’re still spending money in retail stores. And while consumer expectations around the in-store experience may be shifting, retail is still very much alive and well.
Top highlights:
- 38% of consumers feel they typically spend more money in-store, while only 18% agree they spend more money when shopping online.
- The number one factor that makes in-store shopping more preferred is “Quick checkout” which was said among 81% of respondents.
- Shoppers are still passionate about their favorite brands having physical stores – 72% of respondents agree “I would be very disappointed if a store I shop at closes”
